Xbox 360 and modding?

I want to buy xbox 360 halo edition and mod it. I don't use it online or whatsoever. I just want to play back up games with that(I live outside US). What I don't understand is the installation process-I have to have it shipped from US with the mod chip. Can anyone clarify the terminology like firmware .... and tell me how to install the chip(or give me suggestions on chips). Can I buy a modded one(is there a risk) or can I ask the people in US who are buying it for me to have it modded(they know nothing about the game)? Please give me a helpful answer not like It's banned .....

its not worth modding because if its modded and it gets the red ring of death microsoft wont fix it for free you will have to buy another one and beside modding is dumb and is for people who cant win without cheating ("not insulting anyone just saying that is what modding is") but if you really want to mod your xbox i suggest you put this question in the xbox section of yahoo answers they will know there and please w/e dont mod until after your warranty expires just in case you do get the red ring of death and for the love of halo if your going to buy the halo 360 buy the halo3 legendary set
